After numerous mixes, trial and error I’ve come to enjoy this simple recipe.

4:1:1 (4 parts coco or peat, 1 part Rice hulls or similar for aeration, 1 part earth worm castings). I believe the quality of the worm castings is everything in this mixture and I can’t say enough good things about @mountaingateorganics!!! Best I’ve ever used, high microbial with insane fungal growth once you let the soil rest before use.

.

I will use this basic no thrills mix for quick to transplant crops; 2 to 3 weeks in the trays. If the vegetable is going to take more time to grow and require more nutrients then I will add amendments like I would for a coots mix. Those amendments in this case are 1 cup of each; alfalfa meal, crab meal, bone meal, biochar, oystershell, gypsum, kelp, neem cake, feather meal. I let the soil rest for about 2 or 3 weeks typically before use if I add the extras.

.

I typically make my batches using 5 gallon buckets to measure each “Part” so a typical batch is 30 gallons.

.

I have around 100 flats of starts right now and I’ve used roughly 60 gallons of soil give or take.

.

As the weather warms I’m going to start trialing native sand, soil and compost mixtures and see if I can completely get away from the store purchased items.
