🧬 Breeding Journey
We bred this by crossing our F3 White afghani male to blueberry muffin cut from our partner in NY (@jollypondfarmwny) in the summer of 2024.
We started selecting from the White Afghani seed stock in 2020 which we originally got from @landrace_bureau Our first 3 selections were tested over 20 grows before we started breeding with the 3A pheno. We created fem out crosses and simultaneously went to F2 with reg seed from the original 3A selections, then to F2 through regular seed (1st place Fan Favorite winner in 2024) and eventually onto F3 where we created Afghan Breakfast and many other strains.
We hunted out our Afghan Breakfast in early 2025 in the greenhouse, revegged by June and then went full term outdoor with our selections. This was our favorite due to its pungent blueberry smell backed by the beautiful ghani structure.
☀️ The Grow
This winner was grown on a Four-year-old hugelkultur mound. It was a true test of sungrown resilience:
- Watering: Total rainfall for the entire cycle was just 4 inches—never irrigated beyond natural rain. The bed is surrounded by swales to capture water. Only 2 inches of rainfall from planting to 4 weeks in flower.
- Bed Details: The bed was amended with @mountaingateorganics worm castings, and cover cropped with buckwheat. It was built using surrounding wood material, horse manure from a sustainable source, pond muck, forest floor humus and forest top soil then topped with our native clay. The bed has been tested and amended with lime and gypsum to balance it.
